Are competitive exams useful or just a gimmick?

Are competitive exams useful or not?

Hello all!! This is Suven Jagtiani writing this blog. I am presently studying in 9th grade and unlike others I love giving exams. So, some years back I appeared in a competitive exam just for the sake of giving an exam. And now, some years passed on and I am giving these exams not just for the sake of it but with many more aspirations and preparations. So, now after so many years I thought that  I must help you decide whether these competitive exams are useful or not?

So, for coming to the answer in a better way I thought of taking the interview of a very senior teacher from my school regarding this topic:

> 1) Do you think that schools must conduct private competitive exams?

> Yes certainly. Here a student does not confine himself to competing only with his school mates but with other students of his level. He moves out of his comfort zone. He learns a little more than his text book. Today admissions to most of our professional courses are based on entrance exams.

So I believe that students should get into the habit of taking part in competitive exams and take them seriously. "

> 2) What differences do you find in the questioning of competitive exams and the normal school exams?

> Normal school exams have a set pattern of questioning with allocation of marks for various skills learnt. It has to include objective answers as well as long ones. A competitive exam tests a students understanding and concepts in a broader manner. The answers are generally objective. There are several schools across the country whose papers are so thought provoking that their standard is as comparable or even better than some of the mediocre competitive exams.

> 3) Do competitive exams help a student do better in exams like JEE mains and advanced in the future??

> Honestly I don't think there is a definite answer for this. Good competitive exams help a student to prepare better and be mentally more poised during the JEE exams. But it is his or her intelligence and application that will help a student to do better.

> 4) Can studying for competitive exams interrupt a student's normal school studies??

>                                            "No, not at all"
When a group of like minded students seriously prepare for competitive exams it enhances their knowledge and methods. This will surely help them do their normal studies better and with more confidence.

HOPE, THIS INTERVIEW WAS USEFUL FOR YOU !!

BUT NOW, LET'S LOOK AT THE STUDENT POINT OF VIEW !!

Let's look at the good points of competitive exams first [There are fortunately no bad points of competitive exams]

TRICKY QUESTIONS:

I have appeared many competitive exams and I feel that questions in those are much more trickier thank questions of any Indian board. They make a student think logically and a student who does ROTE LEARNING would stand no where in the rankings of these exams [ you bet it!!]

RANKING SYSTEM:

I was shocked with the way the results of my first competitive exam came out [ The results were not bad but the way in which it was presented was shocking!!] The results showed me the:
  1. PERCENTAGE
  2. PERCENTILE [ STATE,CITY,COUNTRY]
  3. RANK [STATE,CITY,COUNTRY]
  4. Student Performance Report
  5. Marks in each section.
So, I am a big fan of these competitive exams and my real learning only happened due to these exams. This happened because I was given an aim due to these competitive exams which helped learn much more than what I learn at my school.

So, are competitive exams useful or a gimmick??[question to you]

Is BYJU's worth it for school studies??

Hello all!! This is Suven Jagtiani writing this blog. I am a student studying in std. 9 .I have not joint any normal  coaching classes for maths and science ever in my life. But my first coaching class for maths and science was unique and very different. Yes, this coaching class was BYJU's- the learning app.... [The name itself is so cool, isn't it?] But let us see that whether the teaching of   Byju's   is also as attractive as it's name ?? My EXPERIENCE with BYJU's : I had bought a course of byju's back a couple of years ago. They gave me a SD card and I even bought a tablet from them in which I could put the SD card and watch their videos. The videos were nice and cool!! The teachers in the video also speak quite clearly which is required while watching an educational video. The teachers even have proper voice modulation.  But the thing which was different were the animations. Diagrams popping out, definitions coming, structures of plants an

How is Google helping India develop?

Hello all!! This is Suven Jagtiani writing this article. I write Educational articles and today I thought of educating you about what Google is doing to help India develop. You would actually think that you know a lot about Google because you use a lot of it's apps like Youtube, Google search, Google+ etc. however am sure that like many you might not have discovered Google completely. So, let's begin with the quest now and find how Google is helping India develop! Why is Google helping India develop? The simple answer is that Google is helping India because India is helping Google become better (What!!) Yes, it's true :) India is a counry where 800 million people live in rural ares and don't have any access to the internet. Google looks at these 800 million people as an opportunity rather than the inability of the country. On the other hand, India is also a country where there are millions of Internet and Google users. Isn't this a huge amount of da

Digital India: Why won't it work in our country?

Hey!! I thought it was a joke..........but it made me realize that 'Yes'  , my India is changing or at least trying to change. Yes, I am talking about the Digital India movement. I couldn't believe that such a movement could even be introduced in India. The biggest reason for this change in our country according to me is our Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Our Government is trying to do hundreds of things for the betterment of our country but the most important point is that are these changes even made effective at the ground level or are such things gimmicks which will just add up to the speeches of our PM in the next elections ? In this article of mine, I'll talk about everything about the 'DIGITAL INDIA MOVEMENT' and why it's chances of being successful in our country is very low. What is the Digital India Movement? Digital India is a campaign launched by the Government of India to ensure that Government services are made available to citizens ele

Can Pro-Kabaddi pick-up in India as IPL did?

Can Pro-Kabaddi pick up as IPL did? Hello all!! This is Suven Jagtiani writing this article. I am a big fan of cricket and as I live in India, it's obvious that I even love the IPL. Such has been the magic of IPL ,that for some it is just a cricket match, for some it's like this:   OR.. LIKE THIS: And for some, IPL is even their bread and butter: (match-fixing) But, as the IPL was getting older and older, getting some wrinkles on it's face(allegations of match-fixing), it's small brother named the Pro kabaddi league took birth in 2014.  AND BOOOM!!  1st season Pro kabaddi league: 552 million viewers (Not a joke!) 11 huge sponsors!! 70 crores ad revenue!! All these stats are not as huge as the stats of IPL but then too for a league to generate such great numbers for the 1st season and for a sport which is not too popular at the global level is a big thing. Why this popularity? I used to ask my grand mother about how kabaddi

SSC vs CBSE vs ICSE : Which is the best?

Hi all !! this is suven jagtiani writing this blog.  I am a sincere student studying in 9th grade. I am in a school which follows the the SSC board. Sometimes My cousins and friends  pull my legs telling me that how can I learn from a board like SSC because they followed the syllabus of CBSE and ICSE[which they considered to be much better and difficult than SSC]. This made me feel that is the SSC board really so bad?   So after 9 years studying in SSC, I thought of writing this blog to explain you about the differences in the so called "INDIAN BOARDS". CBSE [Central board of secondary education] IS THIS BOARD PRESCRIBED BY OUR GOVERNMENT REALLY GOOD? CBSE board is very popular for it's NCERT books and every expert would tell you that all competitive entrance exams are based on CBSE, but let's see the real truth: PROS :  The syllabus and books of CBSE board is very well designed. Science and Maths are well explained in NCERT books. The b

Why do Indian students study a lot?

Why do Indian students study a lot? Note: This is the point of view of a 9th grade Indian student. Talk about ironies and you would realize that India is a big land of ironies. I am actually writing this article to explain you one of the biggest ironies in India. I am sure that you would understand it as you read this article. Now, let's come on to our own Indian students. There is something very characteristic about us. We have the ability to keep our eyes open even when our brain is closed. Time table of an average Indian student: Get up in the morning, pack your bag and go to school. Waste 6 hours in the school.(For many of us)  Eat lunch and head towards tutions.  Listen to the teacher for 3 hours, complete assignments, learn answers and fun with friends. Come back, play, eat dinner and go to sleep. Looking at the time table logically, one would feel that an Indian  student studies for 6 + 3 (School + tutions) i.e 9 hrs. "AOOOHHH!! We study for 9 hours

Is the IGCSE board really worth it?

Hello all!! This is Suven Jagtiani writing this blog. I am a student studying in 9th grade. When I had taken my admission  in school, there was a trend that parents only used to admit their children in schools which were near their house. But now the trend has changed and parents are comparing schools with the board which the schools follow. Many boards have now come up in India and parents have now become spoil for choices. So I decided that is IGCSE , India's one of the most expensive boards really worth it ?? This blog will even tell you that whether it is right to know the quality of the board with the fees that it takes. So, for answering this question, I first took the interview of Ms. Kavita Sukhani ,(Presently head of NEXT School  , Mulund(West) , and has been IGCSE Coordinator at  ECOLE MONDIALE WORLD SCHOOL, Mumbai ), and got some wonderful inputs. Initially, those who are just un-aware of  the IGCSE board, make sure of visiting  their website here .

Suresh Raina : A good player, a better person

Hello all!! This is Suven Jagtiani writing this blog. I am big fan of cricket. I observe cricket very closely and even the behavior of players. Over the years, I have observed 1 cricket player on whom I had to write this article not due to the way he plays but due to the kind of person he is. Yes, this cricketer is Suresh Raina. In this article, you are going to know about the struggles that Suresh Raina faced when he was young, some of his best moments on the cricket field and many more things about him. Early STRUGGLES Very rarely do we get a heading in an article of a sports person as " Early struggles" but such was Suresh Raina's life. The Train Incident Only 13, Raina was traveling to Agra with a bunch of teenagers. To cope up with the winter cold, Raina was wearing his cricket kit, sleeping over a newspaper. Soon he felt a weight on his chest and before he could react, a big kid stood on his chest and started urinating on his face. Raina revealed

Hello all!! This is Suven Jagtiani writing this article. I am a big fan of cricket and I am from India and off course if I am an Indian cricket fan, I am even a fan of MS Dhoni. Such a person MS Dhoni is, we like him just so much. But, why do we love him so much?? Let's uncover the answer to this question right in this article!! Is our love for MSD just due to his success ??
